ANGRY soccer lovers nearly lynched a shop owner and Manchester United supporter in Lusaka’s Chilenje South who, out of frustration, switched TV channels, as Liverpool was carrying out a demolition exercise of the English Premier League Red Devils at Anfield Stadium.
The scores of fans had gathered at Bollen shop situated on Chilumbulu Road to watch the thrilling encounter between the giant English teams.
But as Egyptian star Muhammad Salah scored the sixth goal against Manchester United to hand the men from old Trafford the biggest defeat of the season, the shop owner could not take it anymore.
An apparent supporter of Manchester United, picked the remote control and shifted viewing to Zee World and ignited an explosion of protests by several angry men.
The fans confronted the shop owner, with others threatening to inflict on his body pain worse than the kind Liverpool was inflicting on his team.
Before the situation could escalate to physical discipline, the shop owner quickly switched the channel back to soccer, subsequently restoring the peace.
At the final whistle, his team lost 7-0 but at least he survived a physical beating from soccer lovers.
