TWO suspected armed criminals who attacked a man of Barastone Park and another in Ten Miles area have been shot dead after they attempted to challenge the Anti-Robbery Flying Squad.
The two who were armed with knife and a Pistol allegedly attacked a man of Barastone Park and stole his motor vehicle, a Toyota Vitz bearing registration number BBC 4163 purple in colour.
They further on the same day around 06:30 hours attacked a named man in his shop in Ten Miles area where money amounting to K6,900 and a cellular phone was stolen at gunpoint.
Police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale said this follows a report of aggravated robbery through Matero Police station in which members of the public reported that the suspects were seen jumping into a Flash minibus which was heading towards SOS area along the Great North Road.
“Same day, May 20, 2021 around 14:30 hours, the Anti-Robbery Flying Squad officers received intelligence information from an informer that there were two men in Garden Park area who were in possession of a motor vehicle suspected to have been stolen,” he said.
Mr Mwale said acting on the information, officers rushed to the place where the vehicle was found parked in one of the yards.
He said when officers moved in, two persons who were found with the car immediately attempted to challenge the officers and in the process they were shot at and sustained gunshot wounds.
“They were rushed to the University Teaching Hospitals where they were pronounced dead upon arrival,” he said.
Mr Mwale said police recovered the Toyota Vitz which had its original number plate removed and upon searching the car, a Pistol, a knife and a pair of folded number plates were found.
He said the two unidentified bodies were deposited in the same Hospital mortuary awaiting formal identification and post-mortem.
Meanwhile, the owner of the motor vehicle has positively identified it.
