Current Affairs

A Catholic priest of Kenyan descent, but based in Ndola has called for an SOS from police as his life is allegedly under death threat.

The priest of Ndola’s Kaloko area is believed to be on his congregations death list , with allegations of him mistreating the members by treating them like animals and squandering their money.

Father Douglas Ogato of St John’s Baptist has allegedly been given notice by the church members, otherwise they will kill him

Father Ogato discovered a post on Facebook in which unknown people took to social media alleging that he is a bad man.

The post indicated that he is a foreigner who insults and mistreats parishioners.

He has since reported the matter to police as he feels his life is under harm’s way.

Copperbelt Province commanding officer Peacewell Mweemba said police have since instituted investigations into the priests claims.

He explained that the priest woke up to a rude shock on, May 30th, when he received a message on his Facebook page from a named news page.

“Good morning, please can u help us to publish this information…we are now tired and we have nowhere to report to. We have a Catholic Priest in Ndola in new Kaloko St John the Baptist Church. This priest has gone beyond limits. He now treats people like animals with no respect just because he is a priest. Each and every Christian in New Kaloko is crying ,but the bishop cannot do anything simply because the priest is from outside Zambia and said to be a missionary in Africa,” he said.

Mr Mweemba disclosed that the said message also alleged that Father Ogato insults people during mass, collects every money from lay groups and boasts among the parishioners.

“The said Facebook post further stated that if the priest is not removed, the people of Kaloko will mob him to death. The message was then followed up with the picture of the Priest. This made the man of God to have fear for his life as well as that of his reputation and as such he reported the matter to the police for help,” he said.
