ZAMBIA’S FISCAL DISCIPLINE ELATES WORLD BANK

World Bank Director, Nathan Belete, says the Bank is so far impressed with Zambia’s fiscal discipline.

Speaking when he met President Hakainde Hichilema at State House in Lusaka, Mr. Belete noted that prudent public financial management is vital to securing and maintaining the support of key stakeholders in Zambia’s debt restructuring process.

Mr. Belete added that the Bank will continue supporting the government’s efforts to achieve fiscal stability as evidenced by the 1.1 billion dollar support it has rendered to Zambia.

He also commended President Hichilema for reaching a deal with bilateral creditors to restructure Zambia’s debt under the G20 framework.

And President Hakainde Hichilema has called on the World Bank to actively play its role in debt restructuring so that the process is concluded within the projected period.

President Hichilema says Zambia’s debt restructuring must be expedited, as it will put the country back on the path of inclusive economic growth.
