TWO people have died on spot while five have been injured in an accident which happened in Mwense Luapula province.
Luapula police commanding officer Fwambo Siame said the accident happened at Mulundu village in Mwense district.
He said involved was a Hino Ranger light truck Registration Number ASB 2255 driven by Nkomanga Titus aged 39 years of Mansa Broadcast compound who was driving from North to Southern direction and had carried 25 passengers on top of goods who were going to conduct an open market called Munada.
Mr Siame said the accident happened when the driver due to excessive speed lost control after hitting a road hump and then went off the road to the right side where he hit into a shop pillar.
“Due to the impact, two passengers sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot and their names are Given Chishimba aged 41of Sumbu village, and Dennis Chikeshe aged 36 of suburbs Compound in Mansa District,” he said.
Mr Siame said all the injured are from Suburbs Compound in Mansa District.
He said the victims sustained multiple injuries and are admitted to Mambilima Hospital.
“The driver of the motor vehicle has since been arrested for causing death by dangerous driving and is detained in police custody and will appear in court soon,” he said.
