ON top of the bench warrant earlier issued against him by Lusaka chief resident magistrate Davies Chibwili, another arrest order has been handed out against Lumezi lawmaker Munir Zulu.
While the first warrant was over his failure to appear before magistrate Chibwili in connection with defamation charges, the latest one was over Mr Zulu’s failure to ensure that his name sake Kaizer Zulu, who is allegedly at large, attends court before magistrate Sylvia Munyinya.
Kaizer is supposed to appear before magistrate Munyinya to open his defense in a case the former special assistant to the president for political affairs is charged with failing to appear before the nearest immigration officer and failing to surrender a diplomatic passport.
When the matter came up last time, magistrate Munyonya had ordered sureties Munir and Chilubi Members of Parliament Mulenga Fube to find Kaizer and present him before her to open his defense.
This was after the magistrate, on June 14, issued a bench against Kaizer for absconding court proceedings thrice.
But when the case came up, Thursday, both Munir and Kaizer, were not in court as magistrate Munir took Mr Fube to task to explain when he never made sure Kaizer was in court since he is one of his sureties.
“Give me the last chance, am prepared to come with the accused since having access to him is not a problem,” Mr Fube said.
The magistrate reprimanded the MP for disregarding her orders and taking them lightly.
Don’t take this lightly! Let me remind you”, magistrate Munyinya said before she gave Mr Fube a benefit of doubt and adjourned the case to Wednesday this week for return of beach warrants for Kaizer and Munir.
