CATHOLIC Diocese of Ndola Benjamin Phiri has cautioned priests against issuing statements on the happenings in the country.
Recently, there has appeared to be some friction between the Catholic Church and Government after some comments attributed to some priests rattled the state.
Dr Phiri said priests should desist from commenting on state affairs saying this has the potential to threaten the relationship that exists between the church and the Government.
He said all issues must be left to the Bishop to resolve through engagements with the Government.
Dr Phiri said in a statement that the diocesan Bishops have been asked to inform constituents to avoid making public statements.
” I hereby ask you my dear collaborators (priests, religious and laity) in the Diocese of Ndola to desist from issuing statements regarding the same. We all say that it is through dialogue that we can address the challenges or differences being faced without compromising our prophet role,” he said.
Dr Phiri said if not properly handled the status quo would strain relationships with undesirable repercussions on the public.
