BUS CONDUCTOR JAILED FOR STEALING PRESSING IRON

A BUS conductor has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment with hardlabour for breaking into nine institutions, including the Court of Appeal in a Judge’s chambers where he stole an iron.

Lusaka Magistrate Trevor Kasanda this morning sentenced Davison Hanseko, 19, to jail after finding him guilty of nine counts of breaking into a building and committing a felony.
It was alleged that on different dates last year, Davison and two other men broke into different buildings, among them former Court of Appeal president Fulgency Chisanga’s chambers.
The accused also broke into the National Registration offices and some insurance companies where they stole computers and other accessories worth thousands of kwacha.
The other suspects are Davison’s older brother Franco and Aaron. Davison admitted all the nine counts and was convicted while the other two accused were found guilty in count two only.
In mitigation this morning, the accused pleaded with the court not to jail them. Davison said he was sorry for his actions especially that he already serving a one year jail term.
Franco told the court told the court that he was only receiving the stolen items from his brother, Davison, and never took part in the theft.
But magistrate Kasanda said the convict needed to be punished for his actions which disrupted the operations of institutions where he stole the goods.
He sentenced Davison to seven years while the others were each jailed four years.
