THE Copper Queens’ road to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games has been unveiled, with the team facing a tricky encounter against either Burkina Faso or Mali.
After their maiden appearance in Tokyo, Zambia will be vying to book a ticket for the 2024 Olympics, which will be held in Paris, France.
According to the qualifying procedure outlined by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Zambia have been exempted from playing in the first round of the qualifiers. They will enter the fray in the second round.
This is as a result of their improved standing on the continental stage following their performance at the Women Africa Cup of Nations (WAfCON) and subsequent qualification to the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Zambia won bronze at the WAfCON.
In the second round of the qualifiers, Zambia will play the winner of the two-legged tie between Burkina Faso and Mali.
If Bruce Mwape’s side triumph in the second round, they will set up a date against the overall winner of the matches involving Guinea Bissau and Benin, and Guinea and Ghana, in the third round.
The road to Paris will have four rounds, with the winner of the last matches earning a spot at the Summer Olympic Games in Paris.
“The first round of matches will be played from 10-18 July, with the second-round matches coming from 23-31 October 2023. The third round of matches will take place between 19-28 February 2024, while the fourth round matches will be played between 1-9 April 2024,” Football House states.
