ECONOMIC Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Kasonde Mwenda and 19 other accused persons were yesterday morning detained after Lusaka Magistrate Amy Masoja revoked their police bond.
They accused will only leave remand after meeting the new bail conditions set by the magistrate who ordered them to each present two traceable sureties.
Magistrate Masoja was forced to revoke the bond after the case was delayed because one of the accused has perpetually missed court and that surety had signed bond for majority of the accused.
This is in a case Mr Mwenda and 20 others are charged with with unlawful assembly.
It is alleged that on March 10 this year, the 21, with intent to carry out some common purpose, jointly conducted themselves in a manner aimed at causing people who have assembled to breach peace.
The other accused persons are George Mumbi, 30, a student, businessman Zenis Daka, 28, Bwembya Mulenga, Bale Suzo aged 41 and Ibrahim Mwamba, Joseph Lungu, 20, a general worker, Danny Kalenga, 35, Nathan Kamau, 27, both businessmen and Gift Nguni, a general worker.
Changala Siame, 38, all businessman and Anthony Mwanza, 48, a technician, Gilbert Njobvu, 22, a businessman, Bwalya Katongo, 29, a businessman are also among the accused together with Victoria Malauni, 24, a farmer and Coaster Museke, 27, a general worker.
When the case was called, the court was informed that one of the accused was absent.
Magistrate Masoja then revoked the accuseds’ police bond and ordered that they should each instead provide two traceable working sureties to secure their release.
