Former ZRA boss, another charged with 22 counts of Abuse of office and 22 counts of willful failure to comply with the law

FORMER Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) commissioner general Kingsley Chanda has been charged  with 22 counts of willful failure to comply with the law.

Dr Chanda who has jointly been charged with the former ZRA director administration Callistus Kaoma, has also been charged with another 22 counts of Abuse of Authority of office.

Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said the incidents occurred between January 2017 and December 2020.

He said the duo has since been released on police bond and will appear in court soon.

“Brief facts of the matter are that the duo acted together and wilfully failed to comply with any law or applicable procedure or guidelines and abused their authority of office in relation to the disposal of 22 used Zambia Revenue Motor Vehicles,” he said.

Meanwhile, in a Facebook post on his page, Dr Chanda thanked his supporters after being released from police detention.

“I have been charged with 22 counts representing 22 obsolete vehicles ZRA sold to its employees allegedly without following procedures,” he said.

He said the complainant is Dingani Banda the current Commissioner General who was his Commissioner responsible for asset disposal during that period.

Dr Chanda also thanked his lawyers for securing his bond, along with many others who sent out messages of solidarity.
