GOVERNMENT plans to sink four boreholes at the National Heroes Stadium in an effort to address the water problems that have been affecting the multipurpose arena.
Ministry of Sport permanent secretary Kangwa Chileshe revealed at a briefing that there are a number of problems affecting the country’s largest football venue, some of which stem from construction flaws.
“I am glad that people are taking a keen interest in the Heroes Stadium and the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium,” Chileshe said. “The challenges at Heroes Stadium are inherent; we have inherent problems with Heroes Stadium.
“These problems emanate from the construction of the building. We don’t need to go into those details, but the building has had faults. These faults are not enough to risk your life, but there are challenges to that building.”
Chileshe also revealed that there is a poor water supply at the stadium.
“As a ministry, we know that there is a shortage of water supply,” he said. “We are putting four boreholes there.”
Chileshe said there is also a need to replace the turf at the National Heroes Stadium and the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium because the two surfaces have outlived their lifespan.
