ZAMBIAN striker Francisco Mwepu made his La Liga debut on Wednesday night as Cadiz lost 2-0 to Villarreal, becoming the first Zambian to taste Spanish top flight football.

The 23-year-old, who joined Cadiz from Austrian side Sturm Graz last year, came on as a substitute in the 67th minute.

Despite his side’s defeat, Francisco who is the younger brother to former Chipolopolo captain Enock Mwepu was positive about his performance.

“First of all, the game I am very happy to play my first La Liga game despite luck, was not with us,” he said.

“The loss pains but we just have to believe in ourselves and play Celta at home. It is possible that we can win but I am very happy for me to play my first La Liga game.”

Cadiz are currently 16th in the La Liga table, two points above the relegation zone. They next face Celta Vigo at home on Sunday.
