A Combined team of police officers and other yesterday moved into action to remove street kids from Kitwe’s Central Business District, Chisokone market and Kitwe main bus station in which 207 people were apprehended for various offences.
Officers managed to remove 58 children who have since been taken to an orphanage center together with five blind women with their children.
Police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale said the rest of the suspects are detained in Police custody waiting to be charged as screening is ongoing.
“A Combine team of officers from Zambia Police, Zambia Correctional Services, the Drug Enforcement Commission, Department of Immigration, Kitwe City Council, Social Welfare, Juvenile Justice and the Ministry of Youth and Sports conducted a joint operation between May 19, 2023 at 23:00 hours and May 20, 2023 around 03:00 hours in Kitwe’s Central Business District, Chisokone market and Kitwe main bus station in which 207 people were apprehended for various offences,” he said.
