AN OVERJOYED man of Ndola spent the whole of Monday night nursing a new born baby, singing lullabies, making funny faces and changing its nappies believing he was its father only for police to arrive in the morning to arrest his 28-year old wife for child stealing.
It has been reported that Samuel Kalumba whose job as a clearing agent mostly keeps him away from his home in Lubuto Town in Ndola on the Copper and was too busy to notice that his wife had a miscarriage back in August.
However, on return from work on Monday afternoon, Kalumba arrived to the joyous sounds of a giggling new baby.
Pleased that the new presence of baby had confirmed that his reproductive tools were functional and in tip top condition, Kalumba stayed up whole night entertaining and watching over the bundle of enjoy.
However, Kalumba’s joy turned to shock and disappointment when police constables knocked on his door yesterday in the morning looking for Sofia Kabila, his wife on accusations of stealing a child.
Once at the Police Station, Kalumba’s wife told officers that she had a miscarriage five months ago but did not inform her busy and and usually traveling husband.
Kabila was determined to have a baby with or without pregnancy, she admitted to police she had indeed stolen the child.
Upon her own admission, officers marched Kabila to the detention cells while the baby was reunited with its real parents.
Her husband told officers that hr genuinely believed he was the father to the child until police showed up at his doorstep.
Copperbelt Police commanding officer Peacewell Mweemba has confirmed the baby stealing incident saying the suspect will soon appear in court charged with child stealing contrary to laws of Zambia.
